Congressman McAllister Responds to the President's State of the Union Address

WASHINGTON, D.C.– Congressman Vance McAllister, R-Swartz, released the following statement tonight at the conclusion of President Obama’s State of the Union Address.

 

“President Obama’s State of the Union address was the prime opportunity for him to reset his second term agenda after a year full of havoc, ending with an unnecessary government shutdown and his botched signature healthcare law.

 

I agree with the President that we need a ‘year of action,’ which is why Republicans remain focused on creating jobs, growing the economy, cutting government spending, and limiting government intrusion on the lives of hardworking Americans.

 

The House has passed numerous bills aimed at getting our economy back on track that are awaiting action from the Senate and the President himself. If the President wants a year of action, a good way for him to start is by having a dialogue with Congress so we can find common ground to move government forward with compromises on both sides of the aisle, rather than threatening the power of the pen. I also call on the President to approve the Keystone Pipeline to generate thousands of American jobs and increase domestic energy production.

 

Tonight’s speech was centered on economic mobility, immigration reform, income inequality, and raising the minimum wage. While good talking points were offered, the American people need less talk and more action from our Commander in Chief. Until then, the President’s desire for a year of action will once more be a year of disappointment and unfulfilled promises.”

 

U.S. Rep. Vance McAllister, R-Swartz, represents Louisiana’s 5th Congressional District and serves on the House Committee on Natural Resources and the House Committee on Agriculture.
