Congressman McAllister Issues Statement on the Homeowner Flood Insurance Affordability Act of 2014

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Congressman Vance McAllister, R-Swartz, issued the following statement today after voting in favor of the Homeowner Flood Insurance Affordability Act of 2014.

“H.R. 3370 offers necessary modifications to the Biggert-Waters Flood Insurance Reform and Modernization Act of 2012. This bill is a permanent solution that offers protection for numerous Louisiana homeowners from skyrocketing flood insurance premiums.

“In recent years, unaffordable flood insurance plans have devastated property values. This should free up the real estate market and give buyers a sense of relief, but we still need to ensure that future flood map changes do not catch homeowners off guard.

“I am a proud supporter of this legislation and urge prompt consideration in the Senate to ensure that these unnecessary costs on Louisianians are avoided.”

U.S. Rep. Vance McAllister, R-Swartz, represents Louisiana’s 5th Congressional District and serves on the House Committee on Natural Resources and the House Committee on Agriculture.
