Congressman McAllister Announces 5th District Winner of Congressional Art Contest

WASHINGTON, D.C.–U.S. Rep. Vance McAllister, R-Swartz, is pleased to announce that Brighton Thompson is the 5th District winner of the 2014 Congressional High School Art Competition.

Thompson, a student at Ouachita Christian School in Monroe, was awarded the Grand Prize after receiving the most “Likes” from the public on the Congressman’s Facebook page.

Her creative artwork, titled Blind Ambition will be showcased in the corridor leading to the U.S. Capitol Building for the next year. As the Grand Prize recipient, Thompson will be invited to travel to Washington, D.C. for the Congressional High School Art Competition award ceremony where winners from across the country will be honored.

McAllister said, “I congratulate Brighton on her accomplishment and am proud that all who visit the nation’s capital will have the opportunity to see her exceptional work.”

The annual Congressional High School Art Competition is a nationwide contest initiated by Members of Congress in their respective districts and provides an opportunity for local students to showcase their individual talents and receive national recognition.

“I would like to thank all who participated in this year’s Congressional Art Contest. Many talented artists submitted pieces and all should be very proud of their hard work and creativity,” concluded McAllister.

 

U.S. Rep. Vance McAllister, R-Swartz, represents Louisiana’s 5th Congressional District and serves on the House Committee on Natural Resources and the House Committee on Agriculture.
