Olmsted Terrace Wall Cleaning and Repairs

Masons work on Olmsted Terrace Steps

AOC is undertaking a multi-year project to repair, clean and preserve the Olmsted Terrace masonry walls around the Capitol Building. The current phase project includes the dismantling, repair, reinstallation and comprehensive restoration of the Capitol's north approach walls (near the Senate doors), pedestal, steps and curb. Due to safety considerations, the sidewalk and steps located on the north approach to the Capitol Building will be closed until September 30, 2014. Barricades and signage will also be placed at various locations directing the pedestrian traffic around the active work zone. This phase is anticipated to be complete by December 2014.

Update July 2014: The granite and marble masonry at the north approach steps and at the west approach wall was cleaned and reconstruction of the north approach steps is near completion. Five sections of the granite base at the west approach wall were reset in early July, and now the marble and granite wall are being reconstructed.
