Hoyer Statement on Ukraine Election

WASHINGTON, DC - House Democratic Whip Steny H. Hoyer (MD) released the following statement today on the election in Ukraine:

"Today's election in Ukraine represents an important step forward for the ideals that brought thousands to Maidan Square to demand accountable leaders and self determination for their country. The people of Ukraine acted courageously today by standing up to Russian President Vladimir Putin and his attempts to undermine Ukraine's independence, having violated all ten principles of the Helsinki Final Act. As a former Chairman of the Helsinki Commission, I am proud of the work performed by OSCE staff and volunteers to ensure that today's elections were free and fair."
