WASHINGTON, DC - House Democratic Whip Steny H. Hoyer (MD) released the following statement today marking the 20th anniversary of the founding of the Congressional Asian Pacific American Caucus (CAPAC), and honoring its signifcant role in addressing our nation's major challenges:

“For twenty years, CAPAC has been a leading voice within the Democratic Caucus for equal opportunity, civil rights, and economic growth, and I have been as proud to work closely with its Members in the 113th Congress as I was to partner with former Rep. Norman Mineta and CAPAC’s original founding Members in 1994.  Since its founding, CAPAC has grown substantially and added to the rich diversity of our caucus.

“CAPAC plays a significant role in addressing the major challenges we confront as a nation. As we continue to push for comprehensive immigration reform and legislation to promote economic opportunity, CAPAC will continue to play a central role in formulating the policies that will shape our nation’s future.  I look forward to continuing to work with Chairwoman Chu and all of CAPAC’s Members to advance an agenda that expands opportunity, promotes job creation, and stands up for every American’s voice to be heard in our democracy.”
