Congressman Lamborn Memorial Day Statement

Congressman Doug Lamborn (CO-05) issued the following statement in recognition of Memorial Day 2011.

“On Memorial Day we honor and remember the brave men and women who have given their lives defending America. These patriots made the ultimate sacrifice to preserve and protect our uniquely American rights and freedoms.

“I have the distinct honor of representing a district that is home to some of our nation’s premier military bases and more than 100,000 veterans. I thank our veterans for their service.

“While we enjoy this holiday weekend, I would encourage you to take a moment to reflect on the fallen soldiers from your family and community. Consider visiting a cemetery and placing a wreath on one of their graves.”– Congressman Doug Lamborn (CO-05)

 

Note:  This week in Congress, Lamborn voted for legislation benefitting veterans. The following bills all had overwhelming bipartisan support from the House of Representatives:

H.R. 1383 - includes fixes to the Post-9/11 GI Bill to keep student veterans in the school of their choice;

H.R. 1627 - establishes a new process for the placement of monuments at Arlington National Cemetery, as well as enforcing the reservation process at Arlington;

H.R. 1657 - imposes penalties for small businesses claiming veteran-owned status, and

H.R. 1407 - reissues the annual Cost-of-Living Adjustment for veterans and survivors.

Congressman Lamborn serves on the House Veterans' Affairs Committee.
