McMorris Rodgers Votes Against "HIRE Act"

Small Business Leaders Agree Tax Gimmick Won’t Create Jobs

Washington, DC - Congresswoman Cathy McMorris Rodgers (R-WA), Vice Chair of the House Republican Conference, issued the following statement after voting against H.R. 2847, the “HIRE Act.”

“When I met with local small business leaders during ‘Small Business Week’ last month, their message was clear and consistent:  A ‘jobs tax credit’ will not work.  No small business will hire a new employee simply because of a tiny tax gimmick.  To create jobs, small businesses need a climate of economic certainty.  Unfortunately, it is precisely the ‘spend-and-borrow’ policies of this Administration which compound that uncertainly and harm the potential for job growth.”

“Instead of adding to our $12 trillion debt, we need to get our fiscal house in order.  I support a budget that will lower taxes, lower government spending, and lower our deficit.  That will give businesses the confidence they need to invest, create jobs, and grow our economy again.”
