Budget

It is imperative we have a budget in place that will foster a healthy economy and create opportunities for the generations of our children and grandchildren. To ensure this type of future, I believe the administration must stop wasteful spending. Our debt has grown to unacceptable highs and therefore we cannot afford to continue spending money we do not have and borrowing money for unnecessary expenditures. In addition, I believe we must also establish a budget that reforms our tax code so that we can create more jobs and increase wages for the American people. Our job reports have been inadmissibly low and it is the responsibility of the Administration to create opportunities that will allow for more economically stable Americans.

I believe we must continue to be committed to a budget that will strengthen priorities like Medicare and National Security. In addition, we must reform programs like Medicaid and Social Security so that they can serve their intended purposes.  I am pleased with the recent budget resolution passed by my fellow House colleagues that  will assist in alleviating the excessive spending and reform programs that will leave the next generation with a stronger and more prosperous America.

By any conceivable matrix, the House Republican majority has changed the culture of spending  in Washington.  The FY14 Omnibus bill, is the next step in our mission to cut spending. By comparison, the FY14 base discretionary spending level in the omnibuse is:

  • $191B below the level of spending President Obama anticipated in his first budget
  • $79B below the FY10 enacted level
  • $46B below the FY14 Senate budget
  • $27B below where Paul Ryan anticipated FY14 spending in his original Path to Prosperity
  • Below the FY09 level of enacted spending

Since taking control of the House in 2011, Republicans are leading the charge to cut $165B in total discretionary spending. During their four year majority, Democrats increased spending by $210 Billion.

Our majority has forced Washington to reduce total discretionary spending 4 straight years – the first time since the Korean War.
