Rep. Jenkins in Lawrence to Visit Berry Plastics

By Sara Humm | Channel 6 News Lawrence

Republican Representative Lynn Jenkins stopped in the area Monday afternoon to visit a Lawrence business. Although there was a minor hang-up, her tour went on as planned.

Jenkins was scheduled to stop at Berry Plastics, 2330 Packer Road, Monday afternoon to tour the facility and speak with employees. However, firefighters were called to the business for a fire alarm and the building was evacuated. Employees were allowed back in the building after a short time and the tour went on as planned.

Jenkins said the fire alarm did not stop her from her goal, which was to learn how she can better help the company when it comes to taxes and government aide.

Jenkins, representing the 2nd district in Kansas, said the Ways and Means Committee is currently discussing a tax code that could affect Berry Plastics in certain ways. She said it's her job to make sure the tax code impact is positive.
