Senator Jerry Moran (R-KS) and Congresswoman Lynn Jenkins (KS-02) are both celebrating the inclusion of more than $400 million for the National Bio and Agro-Defense Facility (NBAF) as part of a spending bill that will fund the U.S. government through the end of the year.

“I am extremely pleased the House omnibus bill will designate $404 million to NBAF.” said Congresswoman Lynn Jenkins (KS-02) in a joint statement released along with House Majority Whip Kevin McCarthy (CA-23).

“This is great news for the Kansas economy, Kansas jobs, and confirms NBAF as a federal priority and a critical need for our nation," she added

In a post of Facebook, Sen. Jerry Moran hailed the potential of the NBAF to add to the state economy.

"This investment means Kansas will become a research epicenter, and the construction of this modern, world-class facility will ultimately create jobs for Kansans in the fields of engineering, science and technology," he said

On Thursday, congressional leaders said they reached an agreement on the $1 trillion dollar legislation based on the guidelines laid out in the budget agreement Congress passed last month.

In a joint statement, the Republican and Democratic leaders of the House and Senate appropriations committees said the bill "keeps the government open and eliminates the uncertainty and economic instability of stop-gap governing."

"As with any compromise, not everyone will like everything in this bill," they said. "But in this divided government, a critical bill such as this simply cannot reflect the wants of only one party. We believe this is a good, workable measure that will serve the American people well, and we encourage all our colleagues to support it this week."
