Farm Bill Still in the Works

Representative Lynn Jenkins says congress has passed house bills and senate bills, but right now they are still working out differences.
Jenkins adds the top priority for most Kansas ag producers is to make sure they have crop insurance in case of natural disasters, but the biggest part of the farm bill is the food assistance programs, which is delaying the bill from getting finalized.
She says, "We've done away with some of the cash payments on the farm side. we're trying to reform some of the food stamp programs just to put those in line with the cash welfare requirements."
Congress decided to extend the farm bill until the end of January to give them an opportunity to come to an agreement. The bill is passed every five years.
