Congresswoman Jenkins Tours Fort Riley with Armed Services Committee Chairman Buck McKeon
I firmly believe that one of the primary roles of the federal government is to keep its people safe from harm. I am committed to making sure our men and women who serve in uniform have the most reliable, advanced equipment when they are serving in combat. In addition, we must make it a priority to invest in the technology and strategic resources that will keep our nation safe from nuclear, biological, and chemical threats.
The Second District is home to some of the best and brightest in the Armed Forces. From Fort Riley, home of the Big Red One; Fort Leavenworth, host to the Army Command and General Staff College; the 190th Coyotes out at Forbes Field; and nearly 12,000 National Guard and Reserve members, Eastern Kansas is fortunate to have such a strong military presence.
Each and every day our military dedicate their lives to securing our freedoms. The sacrifices made are not just by our service men and women but also their families. Kansas is proud to have more than 33,000 children with at least one parent serving in the military. I will continue to do everything I can to support not only our men and women in uniform but their families who sacrifice equally for our country. It's imperative we do everything possible to keep our country safe, and I will always work to represent our armed forces.
