Veterans

veteranOur nation’s veterans and military service men and women are the defenders of our freedom. Rep. Lujan is committed to standing up for New Mexico’s veterans and making sure that our veterans get the benefits they have earned and deserve.

We must honor the sacrifices made by those who have served our country bravely. Taking care of our veterans when they return home is a priority, and Rep. Lujan is working to ensure that our veterans have access to the critical healthcare services that will ensure their health.

In Congress, Rep. Lujan has supported our veterans by cosponsoring and voting for the Veterans Health Care Budget Reform and Transparency Act, which authorizes Congress to approve advanced investments for the Department of Veterans Affairs, providing them with the time to plan how to deliver the best care.

Rep. Lujan has held veteran’s town halls where he has encouraged veteran’s to contact his office if they need help getting benefits. Hundreds of veterans have attended his town halls throughout the district. Rep. Lujan has also made it easier for Iraq and Afghanistan veterans to sign up for the New GI Bill by holding sign ups at his district office. He also supported legislation to expand services for rural veterans and to help homeless veterans get housing services.

Rep. Lujan co-authored an amendment to improve mental health service for returning soldiers. The amendment will expand the number of mental health counselors eligible to serve American soldiers and their families under the Department of Defense’s TRICARE health insurance program.
