Housing for Low-Income Senior Citizens in Queens

 QUEENS, NY- Congresswoman Carolyn Maloney (NY) is pleased to announce that Federal Home Loan Bank of New York is providing a $250,000 grant for the Hallets Cove Apartments project (The Project). The Project, sponsored by St. George Episcopal Church Housing Corporation, will provide low-income housing for senior citizens.  

The Project involves the construction of 55 one-bedroom rental units in a seven-story elevator complex which will house low-income senior citizens. A portion of the units will be handicapped accessible and reserved for the frail elderly. The remaining units will be handicapped adaptable. The project will also include on-site parking, laundry facilities, a courtyard and a community center.

The Project is designed to promote a healthy senior-oriented community environment with the availability of supportive services. St George Episcopal Church Housing Corp. will provide such services as housekeeping, meals, laundry, educational and awareness programs, recreational, social and fitness activities. Public transportation and a retail area will be available within walking distance.

I would also like to extend my gratitude to the people of Federal Home Loan Bank of New York, whose support makes projects such as this one possible,” said Congresswoman Maloney. “The Hallets Cove Apartments will greatly improve the lives of its senior residents and strengthen the quality of the community overall”

Maloney also thanked the Astoria Federal Savings and Loan Association, which is providing the principle financing for the Project, with additional financing to be provided by Low Income Housing Tax Credits and Alliant Mortgage.
