Health
Health issues affect us all and determining the best means of addressing them is an important part of my work in Congress.
Before coming to Washington to be your member of Congress, I owned and operated a dental practice in Northern Arizona. Serving the community as a healthcare provider, both by practicing and interacting with other healthcare providers throughout Arizona, I learned the best health care is not only focused on preventative services, but based in the local community.
I agree that America needs health care reform to lower costs, increase access, and enhance patient choice, and as your Congressman I am committed to reform that is both patient centered and market based. That is why I strongly opposed the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (PPACA).
This massive overhaul of the health care system will result in more taxes, higher premiums, increased medical costs, burdens on business, access to care problems and an unprecedented expansion of the federal government. Click HERE to see a full list of tax hikes as a result of PPACA.
In addition, the PPACA will also place an undue financial burden on the states. It is estimated the Medicaid expansion alone would cost the state of Arizona $1 billion a year for the next 10 years.
I fully support a full repeal of PPACA and believe we must create a system which empowers the patient to be in control of their health care, not the government.
In the 112th Congress, I cosponsored and voted in favor of HR 2, a bill that would have repealed the PPACA in its entirety. In addition to voting on full repeal, I have cast numerous votes in favor or repealing certain sections as well as defunding the law.
I also believe that we have an opportunity this Congress to enact serious, patient centered reform. I introduced the Competitive Health Insurance Reform Act that would repeal the McCarran Ferguson Act. The McCarran Ferguson Act was meant to counteract a 1945 Supreme Court decision, and carved out an exception to some federal antitrust laws for health insurance companies. I believe that health insurance companies must abide by the rules that other corporations in this country do. I believe that seeing this repeal through will increase competition, lower costs, and facilitate the purchase of health insurance across state lines.
I will continue to work in the 113th to repeal the PPACA and create a health care system that lowers the cost of services, increases competition in the market place and puts patients and their doctors first.
