Nothing is more important to me than the quality of life in my district, and I am proud of the work I have done to improve infrastructure, preserve historic neighborhoods, fight for better zoning and create schools in my district. Whether working to create an academically rigorous public high school on the Upper East Side, seeking to restore the crumbling Queens seawall or fighting for a full build Second Avenue Subway, my first priority has always been to make my district a better place to live.

NEW YORK, NY – Today, Representative Carolyn B. Maloney (NY-12) applauded the news that the 23rd Street Manhattan VA Hospital is fully operational after having suffered major flood damage during Superstorm Sandy. For the past seven months, the hospital has been restoring services and reopening departments gradually, but today the facility announced completion of the first phase of its plan to repair the damages and will be able to provide regular services to its patients. As part of the federal Sandy Relief package, the Manhattan VA will receive $207 million to repair and redesign the facility.

Maloney (NY-12) hailed the Metropolitan Transportation Authority’s (MTA) announcement that the “muck houses” on Second Avenue at 72nd and 69th Streets will be removed now that all blasting has been completed and the debris has largely been cleared. New York, NY – Today, Congresswoman Carolyn Maloney (D-Manhattan, Queens & Brooklyn) joined with administrators, senior citizens and local elected officials at the Stein Senior Center in Manhattan to hail the allocation by the New York City Department for the Aging of $752,000 in federal Community Development Block Grant funding to support the rehabilitation of the Center’s new home, which is located in the Uniformed Firefighters Association’s headquarters building at 204 East 23rd Street in Manhattan. The Center is celebrating its Grand Opening at its new space this evening.
NEW YORK, NY – At a press conference at Weill Cornell Medical College today, Congresswoman Carolyn B. The legislators urged Congress to act before Friday, March 1, the deadline to trigger sequestration, which will impose $85 billion in automatic spending cuts on the federal budget, with a disproportionate share of the cuts being inflicted on federal funding for medical research supported by the National Institutes of Health (NIH) and other federal agencies.
