NEW YORK, NY - Today, Congresswoman Carolyn B. Maloney (NY) challenged the U.S. Veterans Administration under President Bush not to use a newly begun study on possible consolidation of Brooklyn and Manhattan VA Hospitals as a thinly veiled strategy to slash health services to New York veterans for a cash infusion to government coffers (text of Maloney's statement).

NEW YORK, NY - Today, at an event in New York City sponsored by the World Trade Center (WTC) Worker & Volunteer Medical Screening Program and the National Institute of Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH), Congresswoman Carolyn B. Maloney once again urged a more adequate federal response to the health needs of the sick and injured from the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks.
Apr 27, 2005 Press Release
WASHINGTON, DC - In response to news that the U.S. Veterans Administration has scheduled a public hearing in Brooklyn on May 3, 2005 about the possible consolidation of the Manhattan VA Hospital with the VA Hospital in Brooklyn, Congresswoman Carolyn B. Maloney (NY) today urged Secretary of Veterans Affairs Jim Nicholson to direct his administration to hold public hearings on the issue in Manhattan, not only in Brooklyn, and to increase outreach to New York veterans about all public hearings on the issue and ensure a fair public review of the study before any decision is made about its recommendations.

Lautenberg (D-NJ), Representatives Carolyn Maloney (D-NY), Debbie Wasserman-Schultz (D-FL) and other lawmakers and supporters introduced legislation to STOP pharmacies from denying the sale of physician prescribed prescription medications because of their employees religious beliefs.
Mar 15, 2005 Press Release
WASHINGTON, DC - During today’s House floor debate of the supplemental appropriations bill that is moving quickly through Congress (H.R. 1268), a group of Members of Congress made a strong stand for the United Nations Population Fund, UNFPA, and its efforts to provide vital assistance to pregnant women stricken by the recent Asian tsunami. An amendment proposed by Reps. Carolyn Maloney (NY-14), Linda Sanchez (CA-39), Joseph Crowley (NY-7) and Steve Israel (NY-2) to move $3 million within the supplemental into the tsunami relief fund was accepted.
Mar 10, 2005 Press Release
WASHINGTON, DC - When the Department of Justice recently released the first ever National Protocol for the treatment of rape victims, it omitted even a mention of giving victims the option of emergency contraception to prevent unwanted pregnancies. To remedy that glaring error, Reps. Carolyn B. Maloney (D-NY), Chris Shays (R-CT), Diane E. Watson (D-CA) and James R. Langevin (D-RI) introduced the “Best Help for Rape Victims Act” (H.R. 1214).
Mar 1, 2005 Press Release
WASHINGTON, DC - To bring relief specifically to women and children in the tsunami-torn regions of southeast Asia, a group of lawmakers today are introducing legislation to send a contribution to the United Nations Population Fund, UNFPA. The United Nations program has made an urgent appeal to nations to contribute $27.5 million for tsunami relief for the women of Indonesia, Sri Lanka and the Maldives and is working on the ground to address the urgent maternal health needs of the estimated 150,000 pregnant women living in the areas affected by the tsunami. Unfortunately, since 2002, the US Government has responded to the demands of right-wing pressure groups and withheld all Congressionally-appropriated U.S. contributions to UNFPA.
Feb 18, 2005 Press Release
WASHINGTON, DC - To cement the U.S. government’s commitment to often-overlooked health issues specific to women, Reps. Carolyn Maloney (D-NY) and Deborah Pryce (R-OH) have introduced the Women’s Health Office Act of 2005 (HR 949). The legislation would make permanent women’s health offices within five federal agencies - the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS), the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality (AHRQ), the Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA), the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), and the Food and Drug Administration (FDA).
Feb 10, 2005 Press Release
WASHINGTON, DC - Today, Rep. Carolyn B. Maloney (NY) was denied an opportunity to speak or submit testimony at a public hearing held by the Justice Department that was scheduled to gather public comment on its National Protocol for Sexual Assault Medical Forensic Examination. Instead of accepting Congresswoman Maloney’s statement or written testimony, she was asked to leave by an official who suggested that if she did not leave security would be called.
