Rep. Maloney: Obama Stem Cell Decision a ‘Refreshing Switch from Ideology’

Press Release

WASHINGTON—In response to President Obama’s signing of an Executive Order today relaxing rules governing stem cell research, Rep. Carolyn Maloney (D-NY) issued this statement:

“In another refreshing switch from ideology to fact-based governing, I applaud President Obama’s Executive Order today allowing more forms of human embryonic stem cell research,” Rep. Maloney said. “We can now offer hope to those afflicted with conditions that have stymied researchers—and the real possibility of eventual treatments. The potential offered by increased research in this arena is great, and at long last we can now pursue scientific achievement with proper scientific guidelines and oversight.

“Just as significant is the President’s directive to the head of the White House Office of Science and Technology Policy to 'develop a strategy for restoring scientific integrity to government decision-making.' On issues ranging from climate change to cancer cures, we need a national policy that allows scientists to advance the human condition unfettered by ideology,” Maloney concluded.
