Press Release

WASHINGTON, DC – Rep. Carolyn Maloney (D-NY) released the following statement after the House passed legislation to provide up to 13 additional weeks of unemployment benefits to workers in high unemployment states:

“Today’s action by the House extends a lifeline to the thousands of workers across the nation and in New York who are facing the worst economic crisis since the Great Depression head-on,” Rep. Maloney said.

“Despite some clear signals that an economic recovery has begun, too many have yet to return to full-time employment. While Congress and the President continue to put in place policies that will help create jobs and grow the economy, this extension of benefits will help families avert even larger financial problems, such as the loss of a home or a medical bankruptcy.  Extending benefits is a quick and efficient way to continue to stimulate the economy, and helps those hardest-hit by this downturn.”
