RWPC Members Fight Back Against Obama's War on Coal

WASHINGTON – Members of the Republican Women's Policy Committee have been speaking out this week following President Obama's new initiative targeting energy producers and the jobs they provide to millions of Americans. Below is a summary of our members in the news and their reaction to this new assault on the economy:

Congressman Blackburn:

“If we cannot get China to agree to hand over one American fugitive, the prospects for China following the president’s climate lead are dim. Leaders in Beijing will gladly welcome America’s job creators, and America’s coal with open arms.” - "President Obama’s war on coal is real, industry supporters say" Politico, June 25, 2013

Congresswoman Capito:

"By shutting down the production of coal, not only will the president make it impossible for America to become energy-independent, but he could deliver an unrecoverable blow to coal-rich states like West Virginia." - "Coal Country Lawmakers Outraged Over Obama's Energy Action" Newsmax, June 25, 2013

Congressman Foxx:

"My goodness, where are the Obama administration's priorities? Not on jobs, not on affordable energy…President Obama's war on coal is already a threat to thousands of American jobs." - "House GOP blasts Obama's 'war on coal'" The Hill, June 25, 2013

Congresswoman Noem:

“The president should be fully focused on creating a healthy national economy and putting people back to work and this decision is a step away from that." - "Obama ties Keystone XL to emissions" The Argus Leader, June 26, 2013

Congresswoman Roby:

“It seems President Obama’s renewed global warming push is getting a 'cool' reception as details trickle out. Probably because many of us know that the last this weak economy needs is more job-killing energy regulations. And the last thing families need is a higher power bill, increased food prices, and more pain at the gas pump. This is more than a 'war on coal' – it is a war on American families and businesses who would be crushed by costly, job-killing regulations." - "Republicans Respond to Obama's War on Coal" Alabama Political Reporter, June 26, 2013

Congresswoman Wagner:

"While he will not explicitly say it, this is the next step in this administration's war on coal that they have been waging for the past five years and will not stop until all coal-fired power plants in this country have been shut down by the EPA." - "House GOP blasts Obama's 'war on coal'" The Hill, June 25, 2013
