NEW YORK: Testifying before a Congressional Subcommittee Field Hearing in New York City this week, Congresswoman Carolyn B. Maloney detailed the continued problem of delays that have been crippling LaGuardia airport. Quoting a December 5th headline from the Los Angeles Times, "Welcome to LaGuardia, Enjoy Your Stay.", Congresswoman Maloney concluded that Congress must continue to limit flights scheduled at LaGuardia airport, citing the crisis of last September, when over 25 percent of all delays in the country occurred at LaGuardia airport, as the possible consequence of future inaction. WASHINGTON, D.C. -- Congresswoman Carolyn B. Maloney (NY) recognized the effective work of Senators Chuck Schumer and Hillary Clinton today, as the Senate Appropriations Subcommittee on Transportation announced it had included $3 million for the Second Avenue subway, $20 million for the East Side Access project for the Long Island Rail Road, and maintained funding for the Farley Post Office project in the annual Transportation Appropriations bill. The Senate Appropriations Committee will now consider the bill and send a final version to the full Senate for a vote.

REPS CROWLEY AND MALONEY ANNOUNCE $250,000 FOR LIC LINKS

Washington, DC-Today, Congressman Joseph Crowley (NY-07) and Congresswoman Carolyn Maloney (NY-14) announced that a House subcommittee has approved $250,000 for the Long Island City Links Project (LIC Links). The funding will be made available through an earmark in the FY 2002 House Transportation Appropriations Subcommittee. The full House will vote on the measure later this year.

MALONEY SUPPORTS PORT AUTHORITY RECOMMENDATIONS TO FAA IN MOVE TO REDUCE CONGESTION AT LAGUARDIA AIRPORT

NEW YORK - Today, Congresswoman Carolyn B. Maloney (D-Queens, Manhattan) expressed strong support for the Port Authority's recently released recommendations to the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) aimed at reducing flight congestion at LaGuardia airport. Key ideas in the Port Authority report include encouraging voluntary industry solutions, limiting the number of flights permitted each hour at LaGuardia, charging airlines a "congestion fee" for most flights during peak periods or conducting an auction among the airlines for a predetermined number of permitted flights, and providing financial incentives to encourage the use of larger aircrafts.
