NEW YORK, NY - On Saturday, Congresswoman Carolyn B. Maloney (D-Queens, Manhattan) discussed upcoming improvements to Queens's transportation infrastructure at a town hall meeting at the HANAC Senior Center, highlighting three projects that will benefit her constituents: East Side Access, the Queens Plaza Roadway Rebuilding Project and the Queens Seawall. She was joined by Assemblywoman Cathy Nolan and Councilman Eric Gioia who expressed the need for continued investment in Queens infrastructure. Joseph Petrocelli and Audrey Heffernan of the Metropolitan Transportation Authority made a Powerpoint presentation on East Side Access. Penny Lee of the New York City Department of City Planning discussed the Queens Plaza Roadway Rebuilding Project. Jennifer Kao of the New York City Parks Department made a presentation on the Queens Gateway Park .

Maloney (D-Manhattan, Queens) discussed progress in building the Second Avenue Subway and East Side Access at a town hall meeting held in Ruppert Community Room on the Upper East Side . Manhattan Borough President Scott Stringer , Assemblyman Jonathan Bing , Councilmembers Jessica Lappin and Dan Garodnick joined her in expressing support for the projects. Joseph Petrocelli and Audrey Heffernan of the Metropolitan Transportation Authority presented a power point presentation on the Second Avenue Subway, and Christopher Jones of the Regional Plan Association discussed the importance of the two projects to the economic success of the region.

QUEENS, NY - Yesterday, Congresswoman Carolyn B. Maloney toured the Queens portion of the East Side Access project with top Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA) engineers and officials. MTA Capital Construction President Mysore Nagaraja and East Side Access Project Manager Dilip Patel updated Maloney on the progress of the project, which had two major victories this month: on November 8th, New York voters passed the Transportation Bond Act, which included $450 million for the project; additionally, on November 19th, Congresswoman Maloney and her colleagues secured $340 million for East Side Access in the federal FY 2006 Transportation Appropriations Bill.

Because earlier versions of the bill have already passed the House and Senate, final approval by Congress on today’s compromise legislation is widely anticipated.

QUEENS PLAZA - Today, Congresswoman Carolyn Maloney (Queens, Manhattan) presented an enlarged check for $10.6 million to Iris Weinshall, Commissioner of the New York City Department of Transportation and to Amanda M. Burden, Director of the New York City Planning Department, to improve Queens Plaza’s transportation system in ways that reduce traffic pollution, clean the environment, and provide better bikeways and pedestrian paths for area residents.

WASHINGTON, DC - Congresswoman Carolyn B. Maloney (D-Manhattan and Queens) hailed the inclusion of the Second Avenue Subway and East Side Access projects in H.R. 3, the Transportation Equity Act: A Legacy for Users (TEA-LU), which was approved today by the House of Representatives. Now that TEA-LU has passed in the House, it will be considered by the Senate. Once the bill becomes law, the two major New York City infrastructure improvements would receive federal funds “for final design and construction for fiscal years 2004 through 2009."

Rep. Maloney Hails Progress on Vital Infrastructure Improvements in Her District
WASHINGTON, DC - Congresswoman Carolyn B. Maloney (D-Manhattan and Queens) today hailed the Federal Transit Administration’s decision to designate East Side Access and the Second Avenue Subway as “highly recommended” projects, the only projects in the entire nation to receive that designation. The F.T.A. made the recommendations in its Fiscal Year 2006 New Starts Program Report. In addition, the Report announced that the F.T.A.’s 2006 budget will include $158 million in federal funds to be distributed to the Second Avenue Subway and five other projects from around the country, and $390 million for East Side Access.
