WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, Congressman Sanford D. Bishop, Jr. (GA-02) released the following statement regarding the upcoming Memorial Day on Monday, May 27, 2013.
“Each year on Memorial Day, Americans come together to remember those who have sacrificed their lives on behalf of our country in the name of freedom and democracy. The debt owed to them is immeasurable. Their sacrifices and those of their military families are freedom’s foundation. Truly, without the brave efforts of all the soldiers, sailors, airmen, Marines, Coast Guardsmen, and their families, our country would not live so freely.”
“Every day, these brave men and women fight for our freedom. Our veterans, our service members, and their families understand that in order to defend these rights and the country they so dearly love, sometimes they must sacrifice their right to life to save another’s. Therefore, we must remember their contributions and sacrifices not just on Memorial Day – but every day. We must fight to ensure our Veterans and our military families have proper care every day – because they have fought to ensure we have freedom every day.”
