WASHINGTON – Congresswoman Carolyn B. Maloney (D-NY) and Congressman Ted Poe (R-TX) were joined today at the Capitol by Shandra Woworuntu, a courageous and inspiring survivor of sex trafficking, who now advocates in support of restitution for survivors of similar crimes. The trio spoke in support of the Justice for Victims of Trafficking Act, legislation being considered by the House this week. Poe and Maloney announced they will also being working together on new legislation, the Human Trafficking Fraud Enforcement Act of 2014, which would give the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) more funding and resources to go after pimps and traffickers for taxable income, as well as provide financial assistance and whistleblower protections to survivors.

NEW YORK, NY – An announcement of new, major milestones in the Second Avenue Subway was given today in a presentation by Congresswoman Carolyn B. Maloney (NY-12), Dr. Michael Horodniceanu, MTA Capital Construction Company President, and elected officials. Phase 1 of the project is now 960 days from completion, and will be finished in December 2016. The Second Avenue Subway is among the largest infrastructure projects in the country, and the elected officials and the MTA provided a description of the project’s progress with a detailed presentation and several charts. They also discussed their goals for the rest of the project, as Phase 1 gets closer to completion.

NEW YORK, NY – Congresswoman Carolyn Maloney (NY-12), Council Member Ben Kallos (District Five) and Manhattan Borough President Gale Brewer today praised Mayor Bill de Blasio’s proposal to invest $35 million in the East River Esplanade, a stretch of public, open space along the East River from 60th to 125th St. in dire need of restoration. The funding in the Mayor's Executive Budget Proposal represents a crucial start to the total of $115 million over ten years as reported in the Daily News needed to repair the seawall to prevent needing to spend $430 million on the repair later, according to the Parks Department. Maloney and Kallos co-chair the East River Esplanade Task Force, a group of community members and elected officials advocating for improvements to the park.
