WASHINGTON, DC – Rep. Carolyn B. Maloney (D-NY) today issued the following statement after Senate passage of S. 744, comprehensive immigration reform, by a vote of 68 to 32:

“The Senate has taken an historic step today toward solving one of our nation's longest-standing challenges.

“By creating a pathway to citizenship for 11 million undocumented immigrants, we can keep families intact, grow our economy, support high-skill workers and innovation, and help keep the American dream alive for millions of people.

“While far from perfect, this bill is the product of collaboration and compromise-- something that's been sorely missing in the U.S. House under its current leadership.

“The task now before the House is to keep this bipartisan momentum going, and allow an open and honest debate on this issue, both in committee and on the House floor.”
