MPR: Franken focuses on Uber and Lyft privacy policies
Sen. Franken has long been an advocate of protecting consumers privacy, especially in light of new technologies. As Chair of the Senate Judiciary Subcommittee on Privacy, Technology and the Law, he has recently expressed concerns about how ride-sharing apps Uber and Lyft handle sensitive information like consumers' location data.
In an interview with Minnesota Public Radio, Sen. Franken said:
"I believe that Americans have a fundamental right to privacy, and that includes the ability to control who's getting your personal location information. And obviously they need to get that when they find you, pick you up, and take you where you're going, but how they store it and most importantly who it's shared with. And companies like Uber and Lyft, turns out that they aren't protecting their customers' data from internal misuse, and that's been happening. So I've asked these companies- I've written them letters for more information about their privacy and data policies and how they're being implemented."
