Two Maine airports receive $5.8 million in federal grants

Funds will help rebuild a runway in Waterville and construct an equipment building in Brunswick

Congresswoman Chellie Pingree today announced Federal Aviation Administration grants totaling $5.8 million to support critical projects at Robert LaFleur Airport in Waterville and Brunswick Executive Airport.

“Both of these airports are making exciting contributions to Maine’s economy,” said Pingree. “Recent renovations at LaFleur Airport and its status as a foreign trade zone have strengthened its attractiveness to businesses. Brunswick Executive Airport is offering important services to the innovative hub of businesses developing on the former naval base. These federal investments will help the airports keep up the momentum while improving operations and providing work to local contractors.”

Waterville’s Robert LaFleur Airport will receive $4,326,300 to reconstruct the main 5,500-foot runway that has reached the end of its useful life. Construction is expected to start next spring.

Brunswick Executive Airport is receiving $1,521,270 to construct a snow removal equipment building.

Both grants are through the Federal Aviation Administration’s Airport Improvement Program.
