Commonsense Prevails in Narrow Constitutional Victory, Rep. Marino Prickly Towards Justices

Washington D.C.—Congressman Tom Marino, PA-10, Lycoming County issued the following statement regarding today’s Supreme Court decision in Hobby Lobby and Conestoga Wood v. Burwell:

“What worries me the most is the fact that four Supreme Court judges felt compelled to oppose the Affordable Care Act’s clear and deliberate violation of religious liberty. Our Founders would take serious objection to that fact. The people of my district know this is basic Constitutional adherence. We should feel vindicated in this decision but let us not lose sight of the fact that the Supreme Court has hit an all-time low in confidence with the American people. Congress is not much better, I realize, but there is a bigger problem afoot here when the Court, as an institution holds four members who so willingly assault our Constitution and one of humanity’s most sacred rights: religious liberty. There are those who will politicize this but this is not a win for any political party, it is a narrow win for the American people’s most prized document, the Constitution. Nonetheless I fear there are more decisions like this headed towards the Court. Let us hope the Constitution always stays first place in our hearts and minds”
