LARSON TO PARTICIPATE IN CONFERENCE ON GLOBAL TERRORISM AND INTERNATIONAL SECURITY

WASHINGTON, D.C.U.S. Congressman John B. Larson (CT-01) will participate in the 38th Annual Wehrkunde Conference held in Munich, Germany February 1 through February 3, which will focus on international security and global terrorism. Senators Joseph Lieberman (CT) and John McCain (AZ) will lead the U.S. delegation.

Each year, the conference brings members of the international security and defense community together - ministers and secretaries of defense, experts, members of the armed forces, members of Congress, Parliament and journalists - from more than 30 different nations to discuss global security and transatlantic relations. Speakers include: U.S. Deputy Secretary of Defense Paul Wolfowitz as well as the Ministers of Defense from Germany, Russia and Spain and other officials from Europe and Asia. The conference plays an important role in shaping international security policy.

Larson stated: "It is a privilege to have been invited to the conference in Germany by Senators Lieberman and McCain. In the wake of September 11 and the continuing war on terrorism, international security policy is of the highest priority, particularly for the United States and Europe. Discussions at the conference will focus on the impact of terrorism and the global security strategies needed to safeguard our citizens and families at home, as well as those currently serving abroad. It is my hope that this conference will serve as an important step toward improving the security of every nation and defeating terrorism.

Additional areas of discussion will also include the stability of Central Asia and emerging issues for the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO).
