Paso Robles Press: Congressman McCarthy Honors North County High School Students

Congressman Kevin McCarthy recently honored students from each high school in his congressional district in Atascadero.

McCarthy said the Congressman Kevin McCarthy Merit Award was conceived to "recognize outstanding high school students who have demonstrated exemplary school citizenship, volunteerism, community service, involvement in extracurricular activities, leadership skills and have earned a GPA of 3.5 or higher."

The seven students, their families and representatives from their schools gathered at the Atascadero Unified School District office, where McCarthy introduced each student, bestowed the award and gave the students an opportunity to speak about their plans and make any thanks.

Each awardee received a custom designed medal and a certificate signed by the congressman.

"This isn't about your grade," McCarthy said. "This is about your character, this is about your values and this is about your commitment to the community...and as you can see, the community is in good shape."
