Rep. Marino Calls for Extending the Section 179 Tax Credit

Williamsport, PA—Congressman Tom Marino, PA-10, Lycoming County led fellow Pennsylvania Republican colleagues in writing a letter to Speaker John Boehner, Majority Leader Kevin McCarthy and Majority Whip Steve Scalise urging them to bring, debate and consider a package of tax extenders that includes the extension of Section 179 small business tax credit. Congressmen Glenn “GT” Thompson, Charlie Dent and Lou Barletta joined Congressman Marino in signing this letter to the House Leadership.

The tax extenders were included in H.R. 4457, America’s Small Business Tax Relief Act, which passed the House with wide bipartisan support by a vote of 272 to 144. However, this tax credit cannot be allowed to expire because it allows farmers and other small businesses to deduct the cost business related expenses like tractors and productivity equipment up to $500,000.

Congressman Marino issued the following statement regarding the tax extenders and the letter he penned with his colleagues:

“GT, Charlie, Lou and I all agree that extending Section 179 is imperative to the vitality of economic activity in our Districts. The last thing farmers and small businesses need is for their taxes to go up and reliable credits to expire. Our job is to create an environment that allows businesses to maximize their productivity and make profits which create more jobs and create better products for consumers.”
