Stem rust has plagued wheat farmers for millennia, but new superstrains coming out of East Africa have the potential to overcome 80% of the world's wheat crop. Dr. Ronnie Coffman, the director of the Durable Rust Resistance in Wheat Project, will outline the challenges faced by this international consortium of scientists and some of the successes in securing the world's wheat crop, especially among smallholder farmers in Asia and Africa.
