Congressional Homelessness Caucus Hosts Briefing on Violence Against the Homeless with Actress Susan Sarandon
Washington, DC – (Tuesday, June 24, 2014) – On June 25, Congresswoman Eddie Bernice Johnson, co-chair of the Congressional Homelessness Caucus, in conjunction with Congressman John Conyers, will host an important briefing on violence against the homeless.
Since 1999, the National Coalition for the Homeless (NCH) has documented more than 1,437 acts of violence against homeless individuals; of which, 375 resulted in death. H.R. 1136, the Violence Against the Homeless Accountability Act of 2013, is currently pending before Congress and would amend the Hate Crime Statistics Act to include crimes against the homeless in the crime data collected by the Attorney General.
The distinguished panel of speakers will include Susan Sarandon (actress/activist), David Pirtle (Survivor of Violence, National Coalition for the Homeless), and Tom Morgan (Director, Storied Streets).
