Washington, D.C. Congressman Sanford Bishop, a member of the appropriations Subcommittee on Military Construction, announced that the House approved by a vote of 374 to 0 the Military Construction Appropriations spending bill (HR 4837), which in addition to containing more than $282 million in projects for the state of Georgia also included $11.6 billion dollars in emergency funding to address the devastation caused by hurricanes Charley, Frances, Ivan and Jeanne.

Washington, D.C.  Today, Congressman Sanford Bishop, member of the Military Construction Appropriations Subcommittee, announced that the House of Representatives passed the Military Construction Appropriations spending bill (HR 4837) for fiscal year 2005, which contains $282,746,000 for projects in the state of Georgia. This funding includes $82,977,000 in projects for Fort Benning, as well as $9,600,000 for the construction of a base support center at Moody Air Force Base and $16,000,000 for enclave fencing and parking at Kings Bay.

A U.S. Department of Education grant of $894,150 to Darton College of Albany to recruit 100 students from “under represented” populations for a program to increase the state’s high school completion rate.

The House-passed $369.1 billion Defense Appropriations Bill contains $41.4 million for work on projects that will be done at military bases and by manufacturers located in Georgia’s Second Congressional District, U.S. Representative Sanford Bishop said Wednesday (7/9).

“These projects are important for the defense of the nation,” he said. “But, by bringing a substantial new investment of federal dollars into our area of Georgia, they will also create jobs and help strengthen our area’s economy. This is good for the country, and it’s good for southwest Georgia.”
