Bachmann Joins Colleagues in Hosting 2nd Annual Foster Youth Shadow Day

May 22, 2013 Issues: Foster Care and Adoption

Yesterday, the bipartisan Congressional Caucus on Foster Youth hosted the 2nd Annual Foster Youth Shadow Day. It is an opportunity for successful foster care alumni to come to our nation's capital and meet with Members of Congress  in an effort to help them understand the inner workings of the House of Representatives, learn about the legislative initiatives related to foster care, and share their stories with policy makers.

I spent the day with Daniesha Tobey-Richards. Daniesha was in and out of foster care starting at the age of 1. In high school, in a new foster home with her younger sister, she was blessed with supportive adults in her life. One teacher, specifically, mentored her and made her a part of his family. This bright young lady is now a sophomore psychology major at the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth.
