LARSON: CONGRESS MUST COME BACK INTO SESSION TO ACT ON 9/11 COMMISSION RECOMMENDATIONS

WASHINGTON, D.C.- U.S. Congressman John B. Larson (CT-1) today urged that Congress - which began a six week recess on Friday - quickly return to Washington to act on the recommendations made by the September 11th Commission in their report issued this week.

Swift action is clearly needed to protect the nation, and Congress cannot afford to be on vacation from its responsibilities, said Larson. The House and Senate must be called back into session as soon as possible to adopt the recommendations of the 9/11 commission. Our troops in the field never take a day off from defending the nation, which should provide Congress with more than enough motivation to act now to safeguard our security. In the same way Congress came together after September 11, we now need to act on a bipartisan basis to make the American people as safe as possible. The commission has shown that we are not nearly as secure as we should be and this is no time for Congress to be away.
