COLLECTING WEATHER DATA
From a WC-130J Hercules, Air Force Chief Master Sgt. Rick Cumbo prepares a drop sonde to measure and transfer weather data back to the aircraft while flying on a weather reconnaissance mission into Hurricane Sandy Oct. 29, 2012, somewhere over the East Coast. Once ejected into the storm, the drop sonde transmits real-time weather information back to the aircraft. Cumbo is a loadmaster assigned to the 53rd Weather Reconnaissance Squadron.
