Health Care
Health care issues affect us all, and determining the best means of addressing them is an important part of my work in Congress.
Where I stand
Health care is a very personal issue between health care professional and patient. The federal government is already too highly involved in health care — further interference would be unwarranted and unproductive. That is why I strongly opposed and voted against Obamacare (the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act). In addition, I have cosponsored and voted for every major legislative effort to repeal Obamacare in its entirety or to repeal provisions within the law. Health care needs reform, but a massive government takeover was the wrong answer and has done nothing to help solve one of the biggest issues in health care — cost.
Legislative Action in the 113th Congress
Cosponsored Legislation
H.R. 351 - Protecting Seniors' Access to Medicare Act - would repeal Obamacare’s Independent Payment Advisory Board (IPAB), a de facto rationing board made up of unelected, unaccountable bureaucrats.
H.R. 582 - Healthcare Tax Relief and Mandate Repeal Act - would repeal the individual and employer mandates of Obamacare.
H.J.Res. 28 - A constitutional amendment stating that “Congress shall make no law that imposes a tax on a failure to purchase goods or services.” This amendment to the Constitution would overturn the Supreme Court’s Obamacare decision and define the limit on congressional powers.
