Beatty Opposes 41st Attempt to Undermine and Repeal the Affordable Care Act

Urges Congress to focus on current issues before the nation and the enrollment phase of ACA

(Washington, D.C.) – Congresswoman Beatty (OH-03) released the following statement regarding her opposition to the No Subsidies Without Verification Act, H.R. 2775 that passed 235-191.

Today, Congresswoman Joyce Beatty (OH-3) voted against the No Subsidies Without Verification Act, H.R. 2775, in the U.S. House of Representative, which represents the 41st attempt by House Republicans to undermine and repeal the Affordable Care Act (ACA), which was enacted in 2010.

Thanks to the Affordable Care Act, Americans already are seeing lower costs, better coverage, greater patient protections and access that Republicans continuously attempt to undermine and repeal instead of tackling the issues currently before Congress.

Just over a year ago, millions of women began receiving free coverage for comprehensive women’s preventive services. Up to 17 million children with pre-existing conditions can no longer be denied coverage by insurers; and 3.1 million otherwise uninsured young adults up to age 26 are able to  stay on their parents’ plan.  Last year alone, 3.2 million seniors received a free Annual Wellness Visit under Medicare and 6.3 million seniors in the doughnut hole saved $6.1 billion on their prescription drug costs.

Since the adoption of the Affordable Care Act, 105 million Americans have already received preventive services, including 71 million Americans in private health plans. Additionally, at least 808,000 private sector health care industry jobs have been created since its enactment.

“The Affordable Care Act is landmark legislation that works and helps millions of Americans.  Yet, we still are playing partisan politics in the House. Voting to undermine and repeal the ACA would have a devastating effect on working families, young adults, older Americans, small employers and individuals who are already enjoying its enormous benefits.”

“On October 1st, the enrollment phase of the Affordable Care Act will begin and millions of Americans will gain access to healthcare for the first time.  We should be focused on making sure individuals understand the enrollment process rather than focusing on time-wasting repeals of the Affordable Care Act.”
