Gary Ruc - Graduate

Gary Ruc wanted to be a pilot in the U.S. Air Force, but the wait was too long. Instead, he enlisted in the U.S. Army and became a scout assigned to the 3rd Armored Cavalry Regiment.

Ruc completed his first deployment to Fallujah, Iraq, in the early days of the war, from March 2003 to March 2004. In April 2005, he deployed again to Tal-Afar, but his tour was cut short by an injury that earned him a second Purple Heart.

Ruc heard about the House Wounded Warrior Program through another veteran while participating in a support group at the Department of Veterans Affairs. He applied and was selected in September 2011 to work as a Veterans Case Worker for Congressman Joe Heck in Las Vegas, NV.

Ruc had a huge impact on behalf of the veterans of Nevada's 3rd District reviewing veterans’ cases for action, interacting with the Department of Veterans Affairs, and participating in veterans’ community outreach events.

In June 2013, Ruc accepted a full time position with the Department of Veterans Affairs.
