Brian Knapp -- Fellow

Brian Knapp wanted a personal challenge in his life so he enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps in May 2006.

In 2008, while working in Logistics and Embarkation, Knapp deployed to Afghanistan with the Marine Corps Special Operations Command.

He found the U.S. House of Representatives’ Wounded Warrior Program through the SOFCARE Coalition and was hired in May 2013 to work as a Veterans and Military Liaison in the Syracuse, N.Y., office of Representative Dan Maffei.

Knapp spends his days answering phone calls and inquiries from veterans with a myriad of needs and finds the work very rewarding.  Additionally, he participates in various outreach events geared toward the many issues affecting veterans.

He says the most challenging aspect of his job is dealing with angry and frustrated constituents but feels gratified when he is able to resolve an issue.   Most recently Knapp was able to obtain a long overdue Purple Heart for a World War II veteran almost 70 years to the day the injury was incurred.   Knapp plans to continue working for and with veterans when he completes his fellowship.
