Congressman Dan Kildee (MI-05) this evening introduced the House companion bill, identical to the Senate version passed just hours ago, to immediately extend emergency unemployment insurance for nearly three million Americans. This follows bipartisan action in the U.S. Senate this evening to pass a five-month extension for those who have lost their benefits since the end of last year.
Congressman Dan Kildee (MI-05) this evening introduced the House companion bill, identical to the Senate version passed just hours ago, to immediately extend emergency unemployment insurance for nearly three million Americans. This follows bipartisan action in the U.S. Senate this evening to pass a five-month extension for those who have lost their benefits since the end of last year.
“Close to three million Americans have lost their unemployment benefits waiting for Congress to vote on extending emergency unemployment insurance. Today, the Senate acted, and now the House must take a vote too. I’m calling on Speaker Boehner to hold a vote on this issue before one more family loses this vital economic lifeline as they search for their next job.
“Over the past year, I have worked with local officials to aggressively advocate for a SAFER grant for the city of Flint. Today’s announcement that Flint has not received a third SAFER grant is obviously not the outcome we wanted.
“I strongly support the President and am proud to stand with him advocating to raise the federal minimum wage to $10.10. Unfortunately, a full-time worker currently making the minimum wage falls below the federal poverty line. Americans value hard work and no one working full-time should have to raise their family in poverty.
