Midwest Members of Congress Promote Kildee to New Position within Democratic Caucus

Congressman Dan Kildee (MI-05) today was elected by his Democratic colleagues to serve as Regional Whip for the Midwest Region in the 114th Congress. The new and expanded role for Congressman Kildee will position him to advocate for the Midwest region in Congress as well as assist Democratic leadership in managing legislative business on the floor of the U.S. House of Representatives.

“I am honored that my colleagues elected me to serve as Regional Whip,” Congressman Kildee said. “The Midwest is truly a reflection of the best of America, and I look forward to making sure our region’s interests are represented in Congress. Michigan and the Midwest have a rich manufacturing heritage and continue to play a vital role in manufacturing and trade. It’s my hope that in the coming Congress, Democrats and Republicans will work together to promote economic growth and pass ‘Make it in America’ legislation to support American companies creating high-wage, high-skill jobs here, not overseas.”

“Congratulations to Rep. Dan Kildee on being elected to serve as a Regional Whip in the 114th Congress,” Whip Hoyer said. “Rep. Kildee is a strong leader for Michigan and the Midwest, and this election reflects the respect he enjoys from his peers in the region. I look forward to working with him to advance priorities important to families and businesses in the Midwest and throughout our nation, including the ‘Make It In America’ plan to support the creation of well-paying jobs and bolster manufacturing here at home. I’m confident he will work to bring both parties together to advance this jobs agenda and help ensure more families can make it in America.”

In the 113th Congress, Congressman Kildee was appointed an Assistant Whip by House Democratic Whip Steny Hoyer (MD-05). In the current Congress, he also serves as the freshman representative on the Democratic Steering and Policy Committee.
