WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, former British Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher passed away at the age of 87.  Congressman Holding released the following statement:

 

“Today the people of Great Britain lost a true leader and the United States lost a true friend. Margaret Thatcher was a political giant. The most charismatic leader since Elizabeth the First, and the most formidable since Winston Churchill, she was fully deserving of the accolade ‘The Iron Lady’.

 

Unwavering in her vision, she overcame tremendous opposition from the outside and from within, to lead Great Britain into a new golden age of prosperity. Steadfast in her convictions, she held true to the principles of truth, justice, and the rule of law – and the fight was always worth fighting, even at the risk of public opinion.

 

From her humble background, she combined the common sense of a homemaker with true grit and determination to create a better future for all the hardworking of Britain.

 

As Prime Minister, Mrs. Thatcher was President Reagan’s greatest ally in our fight against Communism – an unwavering champion of democracy and the values that both of our nations hold so dear.
