Congressman George Holding Reacts to Jobs Report Reflecting Slow Economic Growth

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Congressman George Holding released the following statement in response to the Department of Labor’s jobs report for March 2013:

“Today’s jobs report is a reflection of President Obama’s ineffective economic policies. In March, the number of jobs added was not only far below expectations, but also showed the weakest job creation in the last 10 months. This is simply unacceptable at a time when hardworking Americans are struggling to make ends meet for their families. Unemployment is statistically down, but not because people are finding jobs - it is down because people have given up looking for work and have left the workforce. The unemployment rate is still higher than the level projected by the administration when the stimulus plan was enacted – President Obama’s false promises and failed policies are preventing employers from adding workers to their payrolls.

The current job market is frustrating and discouraging to the millions of people who want a job but cannot find one. I am committed to pro-growth solutions and a balanced budget to get Americans across the country back to work.”

Background: The Labor Department reported today that employers added 88,000 jobs last month, the weakest job creation rate since June 2012. Unemployment fell to 7.6% - but about 496,000 people dropped out of the work force.  The labor force participation rate of 63.3% is the lowest in over 30 years.
