Congressman Holding Votes to Repeal Obamacare

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Following passage of H.R. 45 to repeal Obamacare, Congressman George Holding released a statement:

“Starting next year under Obamacare, the government will dominate one of the most personal aspects of an individual’s life – their healthcare. Obamacare is simply a bad policy which will harm families, seniors, young adults, and small businesses -  and it needs to be repealed right away.

The promises made by this administration about Obamacare are not reality. The cost of Obamacare has surged and the law hasn’t even been fully implemented yet. We are $16 trillion in debt, and it will cost the American people over $2 trillion to implement and will result in another $1 trillion in new taxes. More spending and more taxes are not the solution to our debt crisis.

Businesses and families are rightfully concerned about what the implementation of this law means for them. Businesses will have to cut worker hours, lay off workers, squeeze wages and make cuts elsewhere to offset burdensome regulations and costs under the Obamacare employer mandate. There is a lot of concern among families as well. The average family premium has grown by over $3000 since 2008 and reports suggest this could surge even higher, despite the President’s promise that premiums would decrease by $2500.

Three years ago Obamacare was pushed through Congress with backroom deals and false promises, and now we are really seeing what a “train wreck” it is going to be. This law needs to be repealed immediately so we can enact patient-centered reforms that protect American jobs and actually deliver on the promise of affordable health care to individuals and families.”

Background: H.R. 45 offers a full repeal of the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act, or “Obamacare”. Congressman Holding is a cosponsor of this bill which passed the House with a vote of 229 yeas to 195 nays on May 16, 2013.
