Washington, D.C. – Congresswoman Donna F. Edwards (MD-4) released the following statement regarding her vote opposing H.R. 4031, the VA Managers Accountability Act.

“As the daughter of a career service member and veteran, I am outraged at the allegations that have been made.  Like the President, I want accountability at the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA). However, the VA Managers Accountability Act is not the answer and would weaken employment protections across our federal government, threatening our civil service employees to the whims of political gamesmanship.  It is imperative that the inspector general report be used to identify systemic problems within the VA, and I look forward to reviewing the IG’s finding.  I will work with my colleagues in Congress to provide proper Congressional oversight and craft specific legislative solutions based on systemic problems that are identified. Maryland has one of the highest veteran populations in the country, and we must end the problems within the VA that have spanned years and plagued too many administrations.”
