PRESS RELEASE: Congressman Vela Hosts 2nd Annual Congressional Veterans Summit
WASHINGTON, DC – Congressman Filemon Vela (D-TX) will host the 2nd Annual Congressional Veterans Summit on November 22, 2014, from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., at the International Technology Education and Commerce Center (ITECC), 301 Mexico Boulevard, Brownsville, Texas. The Summit will focus focus on three areas: employment, health care and Veterans resources. This will be a free event for all South Texas Veterans and their families.
Congressman Vela and community partners are working together to provide South Texas Veterans with a one-stop shop to visit with veteran friendly employers and organizations. Additionally, veterans will be given the opportunity to receive free health screenings.
Representatives from the VA Valley Coastal Bend Health Care System will provide assistance with enrolling in My Healthy Vet, and information on mental health, suicide prevention, homeless services, human resources, women’s health topics, vocational rehab and peer support.
The Texas Veterans Commission Veterans Health Care Strike Force Team will also be available for individual veteran consultation to help veterans access health related services and check the status of pending claims.
