Ranking Members Waxman and Rush Call for Hearing on Latest Findings from IPCC Reports

Today Ranking Member Henry A. Waxman and Energy and Power Subcommittee Ranking Member Bobby L. Rush sent a letter to Chairmen Fred Upton and Ed Whitfield to request a hearing on the recent reports from the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) on climate change impacts and mitigation. The authoritative reports confirm that climate change is happening and everyone is vulnerable to its impacts. The science shows that the failure to act quickly to reduce carbon pollution will result in dangerous atmospheric concentrations of carbon pollution, temperature increases, and mounting costs.

Rep. Waxman and Sen. Whitehouse Renew Request for Information on Koch Industries’ Stake in Keystone XL Pipeline

Today Rep. Henry A. Waxman and Sen. Sheldon Whitehouse sent a letter to Koch Industries, following up on their letter last month regarding Koch Industries’ financial stake in the Keystone XL tar sands pipeline. Koch Industries’ Senior Vice President, General Counsel, and Secretary Mark Holden replied to the members’ letter last week but failed to provide any of the requested information about Koch Industries’ financial interest in the project.

Waxman and Whitehouse Submit Formal Comments on Keystone Pipeline

As Secretary of State John Kerry continues to consider the fate of the proposed Keystone XL tar sands pipeline, Rep. Henry A. Waxman and Sen. Sheldon Whitehouse wrote to Secretary Kerry explaining why the project is not in our national interest and submitting formal comments critiquing several key elements of the State Department’s Final Supplemental Environmental Impact Statement (FSEIS). Ranking Member Waxman and Energy and Commerce Democrats Introduce Motor Vehicle Safety Act of 2014

Ranking Member Henry A. Waxman was joined yesterday by eight Energy and Commerce Committee Democrats in introducing H.R. 4364, the Motor Vehicle Safety Act of 2014, following the Committee’s hearing with GM CEO Mary Barra on the GM recalls. The legislation will increase transparency and accountability for auto manufacturers and the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), raise NHTSA funding, and increase the amount of maximum civil penalties for violations of federal safety standards.
